One of the largest interconnected electricity systems in the world, National Electricity Market (NEM) metering spans across five Australian states
We are an AEMO accredited Metering Coordinator (MC), Meter Provider (MP) and Meter Data Provider (MDP) for Type 1-4 metering services for business and residential customers.
Leveraging our long-standing relationship in the provision of metering services to large commercial, industrial, generation, electricity retailer and distribution network customers over a 20-year period, we proudly became the primary provider of MC services to a number of retailers in December 2017, as well as many small residential and SME business customers, as part of Power of Choice reforms. Since then, we have successfully delivered significant digital meter rollout programs for our retailer customers, energising and connecting communities across Australia for an electric future.
The NEM covers all Australia except the NT and WA. The NEM includes both the wholesale electricity market and the physical power system used to transport power.

- Small consumers do not currently have an option to engage their own MC and are required to liaise directly with their electricity retailer.
State | Large | Small |
Queensland | >=100 MWh | <100 MWh |
South Australia | >=160 MWh | <160 MWh |
New South Wales | >=160 MWh | <160 MWh |
Australian Capital Territory | >=160 MWh | <160 MWh |
Victoria | >=160 MWh | <160 MWh |
Tasmania | >=150 MWh | <150 MWh |
Generally, sites classified as small are residential premises, however exceptions to this are common. The National Meter Identifier (NMI) classification codes can help you to classify your NMI size.
The above values are based on annual usage. Electricity bills are generally provided in Kilowatt hours (Kwh). A megawatt hour (Mwh) is equal to 1,000 Kilowatt hours (Kwh). Threshold limits are subject to change, please refer to the AEMO for more information http://www.aemo.com.au
