Switchroom extension for Northern Territory power and water company

Our customer
Power and Water transmits and distributes electricity, and provides water and sewerage services, across the Northern Territory.
Their objective
Power and Water needed an 11kV switchboard extension at their facility in Sadadeen, in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. This would enable the clearing of a building and shared infrastructure to provide structural separation between Power Networks and Territory Generation.
The solution
We designed and constructed a new 11kV switchroom extension to the existing Sadadeen substation. This replaced the existing 11kV switchboard located in the adjacent Ron Goodin Power Station. This included brownfield integration works to the adjacent power station and 11kV infrastructure, capacitor banks as well as protection, comms and SCADA systems.
We delivered:
- design and construction of new brickwork building to house the 11kV switchboard
- install, test and pre-commission new 11kV switchboard
- design and construction of underground conduit and cables from the switchboard building to new or existing 11kV termination poles
- design, supply, and install new tap changer control system with Tapcon relays and panels for all three 22/11kV transformers
- design, supply and install metering, protection and SCADA (new RTU) panels, and
- pre-commissioning and testing of protection, comms and SCADA.
