MYTILINEOS S.A. is a multinational industrial giant active in metallurgy, power & gas, and sustainable engineering solutions. They take on complex and demanding projects across the whole solar energy spectrum and ranks amongst the top 10 Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors globally.

Objective

The Renewables & Storage Development Business Unit of MYTILINEOS were looking to team with an experienced delivery partner to support their renewable energy project in Corowa. They came to Yurika with a challenge to design, construct, EPC, test, and commission a substation, including:

  • Design, construct and transfer of assets for the Network Service Provider (NSP) to support the electrical network and allow the connection of the solar farm
  • Interconnect 3.5km of 22kV underground dual circuit feeder for the 30MW solar farm generation to the NSP, Essential Energy
  • Integrate a 5 Mvar Harmonic Filter designed by energySEA.

The proposed site was complex, it was a fragile environmental zone, including home to an endangered and protected frog species (Sloane’s Froglet), and had recently endured significant and unusual rain events causing poor site drainage.

Solution

Yurika developed a solution fit for the remoteness of the site, and included a regional resourcing strategy that:

  • Mobilised Yurika crews from across Queensland, while continuing to strengthen local and regional work crews
  • Coordinated multiple stakeholders, aligning with the MYTILINEOS’ critical project requirements
  • Built, tested and transported an integrated 22kV indoor switchgear and control building
  • Engaged with local property owners, Council, industry and suppliers to enable the construction of a 22kV auto recloser pole on the network.

Outcomes

  • DCT 22 kV NSP auto recloser as part of the requirements of the approval
  • Delivered within budget and timeframe despite delays related to Covid19 and unusual weather events
  • Engagement with local Federation Council and NSW Department of Environment
